As a UM Law grad I may be a little biased in favor of Professor Osbeck, but I think this is a nifty little refresher book on legal research for any attorneys or law students who need it. I graduated a few years ago and am now trying to get my skills back up to snuff after a period of inactivity. This short 120 page book gives you the basics in clear and easy language. It is a step-by-step guide to research: from initial brainstorming in order to determine the leagl problem at issue (what you're actually going to have to research), to finding the answers to your questions (actual researching) as quickly and painlessly as possible, then to using your newly-found research to build a basic outline that ties it all together. Along the way, he adds a lot of helpful advice about the pros and cons of using different sources of law at different points within the research process (think primary versus secondary information sources) in a way that enables the user to improve his or her researching effeciency and find the bottom line answers faster. The faster you can complete your research, the faster you can move on to the subsequent task of writing your memo or brief. At 120 pages, it is pretty basic in terms of coverage, but it gives you enough of the basics to get started. If you need help with this subject becauseyou don't remember how to properly research law, then begin with this book. It is user friendly and basically designed for the beginner...
If you have a Research and Writing class already you probably already learned most of the things this book is going to talk about. It makes some ok points, but contains mostly common sense ideas explained in an easy to read way. Overall, it's inexpensive and small so i keep it in my bag, but not necessary, at least after your first semester.
This book was helpful. I had some good pointers and helpful hints for legal research. It is an easy read.
Although I also used this book as a guide for completing assignments in school, I found it just as useful at my summer firm job. It is concise and pithy, and it provides the perfect roadmap and reminder for any legal assignment.
It just doesn't stand out...but worth skimming over. It was 'recommended' for my class and I never read it. Got a B in the class.

As a 2nd yr law student prepping for a summer position, I found Impeccable Research to be an invaluable resource. I've read quite a few legal research guides, but this one is a personal favorite. The book boils down complicated research techniques into easy-to-understand steps, and presents the material in such a fun and interesting fashion that I forgot I was reading a research guide. The witty anecdotes kept me engaged in the reading, and also were useful examples of pitfalls to avoid when conducting research. While the material was extremely valuable to me as a 2L and 3L, I really wish that I had read it my 1L year so I could've benefitted from the background knowledge during my legal practice course.I really cannot say enough good things about this book - if you're looking for a concise research guide, this is a fantastic selection. I highly recommend it!
