There were too many cooks in the kitchen in this one. Or so they thought. Devan and Ori have been rival cooks, ego much, who do not like one another. They are challenged by having to work together on a new cooking show. The network wants the sparks that their adversarial feelings toward one another is guaranteed to bring. But we all know that where there is smoke there is fire and usually it is the fire of passion denied. They have history, having competed in culinary school. As they are forced to re-channel their passionate dislike to help each other succeed things move in a rather sexy direction. In the end they find out that each is the other's missing ingredient.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Devan, Alpha expects to remain perennial bachelor runs a podcast. Ori, Omega spent career since school competing with Devan. They hired to co-host a cooking show and the fireworks seem to be the best part of the show. Is their animosity real or hiding deeper feelings? Devon helps Ori out in a 'heat' situation and their relationship 'jumps the shark'. Does enything come of the heat situation? How will they face each other the next day on the show? Can they find a way to get along? Like watching bickering teenagers! Continued great character & relationship development. Nice friends making appearances. Absolutely enjoyable story. Excellent series! I received an ARC from Booksprout to review this story.

I love this trope, and it was great to see that both Ori and Devan felt animosity against the other at the beginning of this book. I felt that we didn't get enough of their being enemies before they became lovers, but it didn't detract from the story. The one thing that I find a bit confusing about this whole series is how the characters in these books are all in the same pack, but the pack only very rarely seems to be in contact with each other.

Knot the Enemy is the story of Ori and Devan. They absolutely hate one another. Enemies and competitors to the end. But now they need to work together in a new show, Taste Buds. Devan is an alpha chef who has won awards for his cooking and runs a podcast. His life is all about his career and is in no hurry to find his fated mate or have children. Ori is an omega chef who has spent his schooling and career competing against Devan. He is intelligent but has a smart mouth and loves sparring with Devan. When they begin their show, tensions run high between them, and so do the ratings. Then one night, after being made to share a hotel room, Ori goes into heat. There is only one thing to do, Devan must help him through it so they can film the next day. What started as a delightful favor becomes so much more when they find they are fated. When a surprise complication arises, how will they react and what does it mean for the show?Great story! Ori and Devan are great main characters, both a little selfish and vain. Their arguing was humorous and you could see they were perfect for one another. The addition of filming a show just added to the hilarity and drama. Plenty of emotions to go around in this story also. I always love the inclusion of former main characters and supporting characters. They always add good things to the story and let you catch up on where they are now. This whole series has been fantastic and I cannot wait for the last book. This enemies to lovers story is definitely worth the read.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

(Review with spoilers)New book in the series. I liked it, but not as much as the others (the third is still my favorite).Devan and Ori are old rivals who are forced to work together. Neither of them wanted to do it, but they accepted and discovered that the other was not as they believed, that they could get along, and that there could be more than friendship between them.I love the chemistry between them, and how they are surprised that they can have fun together. At the beginning of the book, I liked Devan better than Ori. Ori is too smug. But, as the story progressed, that changed. I liked Ori much better, and I disliked Devan. After their discussion (his discussion, because he didn't let Ori speak), I stopped liking him, for everything he said, for what he said, for how he hurt Ori with his words, and how he thought he enjoyed it. In the other books I did not get this impression of him being so cruel. Yes, he repents at once, and he thinks that, as a wolf, he won't hurt him anymore and won't break his heart again. But I think Ori forgives him too soon.I love Shane, how he talks to Devan, how he tells him not to lose the best that has ever happened to him. I hope he soon finds his mate.I loved seeing the other couples and their children.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the fourth book in the Howling Hills series. In this book, Devan is an alpha who is about to get his won reality show about visiting different restaurants and talking about the food. Devan is happy for the show, but when he learns the producers added his nemesis Ori to join him, he is not impressed. Ori is an omega and also trained as a chef with Devan. Devan and Ori competed with everything and Devan ususally won. Ori hated Devan and Knows they are going to disagree on everything. When Ori goes into heat the night before they are to film a big episode, Devan decides to help him out. Ori knows he has to have sex to stop his heat, or he won't be able to film the show. Both Devan and Ori are even more shocked to find out they are fated mates when Devan knots Ori. They hate each other, but fate seems to think they should be together, so they have to try and figure out how. I loved this book, i laughed at them. I loved Devan and Ori together. They had a love/ hate relationship but i think underneath it all, they really liked each other, but wouldn't admit it. Once they were mated, they had no choice but to admit their feelings. Another good one in this series.

A Rip in Heaven: A Memoir of Murder And Its Aftermath, by Jeanine Cummins

From Publishers Weekly

On the night of April 4, 1991, during a spring-break family vacation to St. Louis, Cummins's 19-year-old brother, Tom, and his two female cousins were attacked while walking on the abandoned Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. During the attack, the girls were raped; afterward, all three were pushed off the bridge by the four assailants. Tom survived; the girls did not. Cummins presents a mesmerizing, highly balanced memoir of the events, writing in the third person to give readers "an intimate knowledge of each facet of the story." She introduces her own family, referring to herself by her childhood nickname, and then does the same for each of the assailants, thoughtfully painting an in-depth portrait of each character without ever passing judgment. Moreover, she takes what could be cold, dry factual information from "court documents, police records, electronic media" and her own interviews and deftly weaves them into a compelling, novel-like account. She explores the family's initial horror over the police holding Tom as a suspect for this crime that made national headlines. (One of the attackers wound up with a 30-year plea; the others are currently on death row.) For someone so closely related to a crime victim to strike such a fine balance in chronicling it is a highly admirable feat. Cummins's noble account will ultimately draw readers into all sides of the story. 8 pages of photos not seen by PW. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. I hate to say, "I love it" for such a tragic story as this one. It is a cliche for one to say they found the book hard to put down but such was the case with this book. Author Jeannine Cummins relates the story of her bother and their two cousins when the Cummins' family visited their relatives in St. Louis, Missouri. I need not relate the tragedy here as several reviewers has already done that. Suffice it to say the cruelty individuals can do to others knows no bounds whatsoever. The 1924 case of Leopold and Loeb murdering Bobby Franks was solved due to a pair of glasses. The case in this book was solved due to a flashlight in addition to the survival of Tom Cummins. After all the heartache and difficulties that Tom Cummins had to endure to survive this ordeal the punishment from the St. Louis police department was inexcusable. Anything to "solve" a case never mind whether we have the correct individual/s or not.The book contains photos of the Cummins and Kerry family in addition to photos of the Chain of Rocks Bridges north of St. Louis. If you want to find photos of the sickos who are responsible for this heinous crime you'll have to go to the internet. I can certainly understand author Jeanine Cummins not wanting to contaminate her book by placing photos of these individuals in her book. This book is true crime at its worst. My sincere sympathy to both the Cummins and Kerry family for what they have had to endure.

I do agree with several other reviews that this book was one that I just couldn't put down. Written with such true conviction and love for those she lost. The entire way through I was angry with the justice system for failing these families and accusing Tom of such a heinous crime. His true passion was the love of his cousins and what happened that day in 1991 will forever be engrained in his mind, heart and soul. My condolences go out to the Kerry/Cummins families. May you find true peace!

As one reviewer has noted, this is not a typical addition to the true crime genre. It shares much in common with Strange Piece of Paradise in that both are attempts by a victim/family member to depict the aftermath of a crime. Where Terri Jentz had to confront years of not knowing who her attacker was, Jeanine Cummins and family had to face having a beloved family member being accused of killing two other beloved family members. It's hard to review a book such as this without a certain amount of sympathy entering into one's judgment. It is for me, at least. This is not the best written non-fiction book you'll ever read, nor is the prose in it the most fluid. It is also, because of Cummins' decision to tell this in the third-person, the most emotionally wrought. But it is better written than most first person accounts I've read. Cummins takes considerable pains to bring Julie and Robin Kerry to life, to make the reader feel the loss Cummins and her family felt. The horror of their deaths (and the nature of their deaths) is compounded when Cummins' brother is accused of their murders. This is the story of the death of innocence, both literal and figurative. By the time the murders are caught, turn on each other and three are sentenced to death there little sense of justice for the family. Two girls have been gang-raped and murdered, one of the bodies has never been found. The survivor of the attacks has been first branded the likely suspect by the press then must relive the events over and over, in the trials and the subsequent parole hearings. As if this isn't enough agony, they must endure having the convicted murderers still claim their innocence and blame one of the victims. The question of Why? remains unanswered by the perpetrators and possibly unanswerable.

It was a requirement in class to read a criminal book. I chose this one and enjoyed it. This boom is based on a true story and written by a family member of the victim. The book was very interesting and threw alot of curveballs at the victims family. It is very rare for me to read a book. I am glad I chose to read this one!

It's time the victims of crime are remembered versus the criminal and I am grateful the author had the courage to write this book honoring her family members. Jeanine Cummins had my full attention from the first page to the last page. Well done and I look forward to reading one of your novels next!

a few years ago after I first read this book, I had the chance to be in st. louis and made it a point to see this bridge.the bridge in question is right in downtown east st. louis, bad part of town. who would go down there late at night, to a closed bridge?kids. it was scary to look at durning the day.this is well written, and the heart break can be felt by the reader.if you can handle the subject, it's a really good book.ms. cummins really makes you feel her sadness, and for me that is a good writer that is able to do that.

I used to work with one of the sister's related to the Kerry sisters. I don't think she was mentioned in this story, if she was, her name was changed. Anyway, she was the one who told me about this book. It was very well written, and it was nice to read it from the family's point of view. Such a tragedy though! My hearts go out to all of you still...I know you just had another anniversary, and I know they really never get any easier! Just know that they truly made a difference on this earth, and they will live on forever through the hearts of so many that they touched.

I don't often read books. I wanted to buy a couple before a flight and I kinda dig true crime and this popped up. VERY GOOD! I couldn't put it down!! I spent my whole vacation on the beach reading this book!! It was very touching and I felt "close" with the characters.... I'll never forget this one.
